Whether the design and installation of the cooling system are appropriate and correct is critical to the life and performance of the diesel engine. The cooling system includes an internal circulating water system and an external circulating water system. The function of the internal circulating water system is to take away the heat generated in the combustion chamber, and transfer the heat to the external circulating water system through the heat exchanger, and the external circulating water system transfers the heat to the seawater. The schematic diagram and layout diagram are shown in the figure.

Water circulation system installation requirements:
Generally, the inner diameter of the inlet pipe of the sea water pump shall not be less than φ71mm, and the inner diameter of the outlet pipe of the heat exchanger shall not be less than φ51mm.
The sea water pump inlet pipe must be equipped with a sea water filter, the filter hole is (φ2~φ4) mm, so that impurities and dirt in the water can be filtered out.
The matching design and installation of the entire cooling system should make the diesel engine outlet water temperature ≤85°C, and the intercooler inlet water temperature <32°C.
 
Heat exchanger
Check once a quarter to dredge the pipes and remove dirt. Check the zinc rod every 250 hours. If the length is less than 10mm or the diameter is less than 5.5mm, it is recommended to replace the zinc rod screw plug assembly.
 
Water pump
(1) Installation method of water pump
There are three ways to install the pump:
Fresh water pump and sea water pump installation: This installation method has been installed for the user when the diesel engine leaves the factory. It only needs the user to connect the water inlet of the sea water pump. This installation method is more worry-free for customers. Need to pay attention to the following requirements:
Before the diesel engine starts, the water pump should be filled with water, and the bleed screw plug on the top of the pump casing should be opened for inspection.
The rolling bearing of the sea water pump is lubricated with 3# lithium-based grease. Grease should be added or replaced through the oiling cup every 2000h of work. If you find that the grease is hardened or the bearing heats up, you should immediately replace the new grease. Do not lick the grease too much. , Occupies 1/3~1/2 of the cavity.
The bearing of the fresh water pump is lubricated by the oil at the camshaft, and there is no need to add lubricating oil during use.
The suction height of the sea water pump should be less than 2m. If it exceeds this height, the pump will not discharge water.

External belt drive for fresh water pump and sea water pump: This installation method requires the user to connect the water pump. The picture shows the size of the water pump base. Pay attention to the following requirements during installation:

1. When installing, keep the axis of the pump and pulley parallel to each other.
2. Use ordinary V-belt with B-slot, with a length of 1700mm.
3. Ordinary V-belts are stretched after a long time of work. In order to maintain a certain tension, the base of the pump can be designed to be adjustable, or a tensioner can be added.
4. When installing the water pump, keep the rotation direction of the pump pulley consistent with the rotation direction of the pulley.
5. Since the belt-driven water pumps are of the same model, users can specify fresh water pumps and sea water pumps at will
6. A check valve should be installed at the bottom of the suction pipe of the pump, and the check valve must be flexible.
7. The suction height of the water pump should be less than 6m. If it exceeds this height, the pump will not discharge water.

Pay attention to the following issues when using:

If you find that the grease is hardened or the bearing heats up, you should replace the new grease immediately. Do not add too much grease. It occupies 1/3-1/2 of the cavity.
The mechanical seal of the pump should be checked every six months and replaced if necessary.
